Want To Sell Crafts Online? Craft Blogging Is Fast, Easy and Remarkably Powerful

Anyone serious about wanting to sell crafts online should be running a blog. As either a standalone (which would be the way to start if you have no website at the moment) or as an addition to an existing website, there is no more powerful craft marketing tool. They’re easy to install, a professional set-up will cost you just a few dollars a month and they’re so simple to run you’ll be comfortable with it in a couple of weeks – even if you’ve got absolutely no previous knowledge of websites. Don’t worry, you don’t need to know anything about html, php or any other code. If you can type, cut and paste, you can run your own successful craft blog! My personal choice would be a WordPress install. You can use WordPress on a free blog but as I’ve said in previous articles, you’re leaving control of part of your craft business in someone else’s hands. Why WordPress? Well for one, it’s mature technology. It’s been around for several years now and has been through continuous development. It’s also “open source” software which means that anyone who knows what they can are doing can write new tools for it. As a result, many indispensable add-ons (called plug-ins) are free. For example, if you want to change how your blog looks there are literally thousands of free “themes” for you to choose from. Want to cut down spam? There’s a free plug-in for that. Want to update the search engines every time you write a new blog post? Another free plug-in. Want to automatically email yourself a back-up of your craft blog just in case there’s a problem? Guess what… yep, another free plug-in. Then there’s how search-engine friendly blogs are. If you want to sell crafts online you want as many people to see them as possible. Blogs regularly outstrip traditional websites because they’re fresh and lively and the search engines love new content. People love them too because they tend to be much more personal – a little view on that particular crafts person’s world if you like. Craft marketing is about getting your message across and there’s no better way to do that than a blog. If you’ve got a professional installation (this won’t be allowed on the free ones) you can even add your craft store at no extra cost. So that’s marketing, advertising and the ability to sell crafts online in the same package, for a few dollars a month. I challenge you to show me a better or easier way to build your craft business!
